The traditional bamboo whisk is an essential tool for perfect matcha preparation. It finely whisks the powdered green tea into a smooth, velvety foam.
Step-by-step
Before preparing your matcha, soak the whisk in a bowl or cup of hot water for about 1 minute to soften the bristles and help prevent breakage.
Add 1 tsp of matcha to your bowl, preferably sifted through a strainer beforehand.
Pour in approximately 60 ml of hot water (80°C / 175°F).
Whisk the matcha using quick “M”-shaped motions until a fine foam forms on the surface.
Rinse the whisk under running water and leave it to dry in a clean, dry place.
After use, place the whisk on its holder to help maintain its shape.
Enjoy your homemade matcha. 🍵
Origin & Ritual
The tradition of preparing matcha originates from Japan, where the tea ceremony is considered an art of presence and attention to detail. Handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo, the chasen is an essential part of this ritual — a symbol of simplicity, naturalness, and balance. With every movement, it does more than whisk tea; it creates a small moment of calm and connection with yourself.
